This time and finally it’s official! Samsung announced that the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) update where most Samsung Galaxy S II GT-I9100 owners have been waiting for is now ready for download either through Samsung Kies or via OTA (over-the-air). Although the roll out will be gradually implemented globally. The Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system update for Samsung Galaxy S II GT-I9100 will be received first by UK (European countries), Poland, Hungary, Sweden, and of course Korea. And for the rest of the world will come after them – no official dates yet. It looks like that Samsung is still on the track even after the recent controversy I posted late last week. Below is the tweet from @samsungUK where they officially announced the availability of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich on Samsung Galaxy S II.
According to Samsung through JK Shin – President of IT & Mobile Communication, they are hoping and expecting that the end-users or owners of Samsung Galaxy products to be happy and would enjoy the enhancements of Samsung products through the updates. Honestly, this is what I love about the new technology we have today especially for the mobile industry. Instead of buying and swiping our credit cards just to have the latest smartphone today whether it is an Android mobile device, iPhone, Blackberry, Nokia or any other devices out there – we get to enjoy the latest innovation by just getting either the firmware or operating system update – neat!
Another good news from Samsung, they announced as well that the Ice Cream Sandwich or Android 4.0 update will also land for those owners of Galaxy Note, Galaxy S II LTE, Galaxy Tab (8.9 and 10.1) but the date is yet to be announced.
If you are residing outside the countries mentioned above, you should still check if there’s an software upgrade available for your Samsung Galaxy S II GT-I9100. I recently updated my operating system last week to the upgraded version of Gingerbread. And as Samsung announced, they have already completed the upgrades for both Froyo and Gingerbread since last year. You can compare your Samsung Galaxy S II GT-I9100 version you have against mine by looking into the screenshot I have above. I did the upgrade through over-the-air method and if you still don’t know how to go about it just press the following Settings -> About phone -> Software update -> Update.
